Wedding Rings – When Stars Collide

Moving heaven and earth to choose the right wedding rings may be the order of the day but according to a report in the Telegraph, there may well be a considerable intergalactic influence as well. It is suggested that the huge explosions created when two stars collide may well play their part in providing the gold found in many wedding rings today.

Wedding Rings – Stars In Your Eyes

It’s safe to say that when a bride and groom make their way down the aisle, they won’t expect that the gold in the wedding rings that they are about to exchange were formed when two stars came into contact with one another and interacted in a violent manner. But, according to British astrologists, this is exactly what happened and the gold found in many wedding rings today is as a result of this process.

Wedding Rings – Science and Marriage

According to the report in the Telegraph, we may be getting more than we bargained for when we exchange gold wedding rings. The British astrologists found that precious metals (like gold) can form from lighter elements when dense stars collide. The infrequency of these collisions goes a long way to explaining why gold and other precious metals are so rare. The process of intergalactic wedding rings is dependent upon neutron stars, which is incredibly dense spinning matter that remains after a star explodes. If two neutron stars collide then it causes a vast explosion and in the dying moments of the explosion, the lighter elements such as iron and nickel are transformed into precious metals such as gold and platinum. Speaking to the Telegraph, Dr Stephen Rosswog of the UK Astrophysical Fluids Facility, states, “This is an incredible result. It is exciting to think that the gold in wedding rings was formed by colliding stars.”
