Jewellery and celebrity – bigger is better

Celebrity engagements are always a bit of a thrill for jewellery lovers – the size of the diamonds seems to have a direct correlation on the status of the starlet wearing it. And it isn’t just a recent phenomenon; jewellery and Hollywood have always gone hand in hand.

Jewellery and Celebrity Trends

Whatever kind of jewellery a film star wears, you can be sure it will spark a fashion on the High Street, whether its charm bracelets or rings worn on chains, whatever jewellery the celebrities are wearing will become instantly in demand. And some celebrities have become famed for their love of jewellery:

  • Elvis Presley was probably the first male pop star to embrace ‘bling’. His jewellery collection included rather impressively large diamond rings. When he announced his engagement to Priscilla, he gave her some impressive jewellery, including a 3.5 carat diamond engagement ring that was circled by another 21 smaller diamonds and diamond chips.

  • Elizabeth Taylor had a series of famous weddings and separations, and an equally famous series of engagement rings and wedding jewellery. On her third husband Michael Todd, her engagement ring was an emerald cut diamond that weighed almost 30 carats. However, the jewellery pieces she is most famed for is her 39 carat Krupp diamond, the 69.42 carat pear-shaped Taylor-Burton diamond and the 17th century heart-shaped Taj Mahal diamond.

  • Royalty – of course royalty should outclass even the biggest Hollywood starlet when it comes to jewellery. Grace Kelly was known for her stylish and classy jewellery, her engagement ring from Prince Rainier was a 12 carat emerald-cut diamond ring. The Princess Grace of Monaco wore incredible jewellery on her wedding day including a diamond and pearl necklace, bracelet and earring set from Van Cleef & Arpel.

  • Jacqueline Kennedy – The jewellery worn by Jacqueline Kennedy turned the Kennedy marriage into the ‘wedding of the year’ in 1953. Her 2 carat diamond and emerald engagement ring, pearl necklace and diamond leaf pin and a pearl and diamond bracelet offset her ivory silk taffeta wedding dress.

It seems when it comes to pop stars and movie starlets, the engagement and wedding jewellery is out of this world – and the jewellery itself is timeless, even if the marriages don’t always work out!
