Wedding rings - feeling the pinch

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but, according to the report on Channel 4 News, they may have to make do with a slightly smaller diamond on their wedding rings for the time being at least as the effects of the credit crunch really begin to take hold. Belts are being significantly tightened up and down the country as the debt crisis that is exerting its force on consumers up and down the country is having a massive effect on people’s disposable income; lamentably, engagement and wedding rings are currently a casualty of the economy’s downturn as a new report suggest that men are spending less on wedding rings than they were at this time last year.

Wedding Rings – Thought That Counts

According to the report on Channel 4 News, whilst the amount men choose to spend on engagement and wedding rings has taken a hit as a result of the credit crunch, the part of a wedding that men seldom have a say in, the ceremony itself, is costing just as much today as it did at this time last year. According to the report, men are now spending an average of £400 less on engagement or wedding rings, taking the average spend down to £1436. Despite the cutting back of expenses so far as wedding rings are concerned, the ceremonies themselves are still costing an average of £20,000 according to a survey conducted in Wedding Magazine.

Wedding Rings – Credit Crunch Casualties

It’s not just engagement and wedding rings that are feeling the pinch when it comes to cutting back on wedding expenses. According to the report on Channel 4 News, couples who are getting married are increasingly likely not to ask for wedding gifts due to the current state of the economy in the UK and the fact that people’s wallets are increasingly bare. However, if men encounter the thorny issue of women not willing to accept their scrimping when it comes to the purchase of wedding rings, Wedding Magazine reports that the Registry Office came top of the cheapest venues to have a wedding at just £9,737; leaving men with a bit extra to spend on those engagement and wedding rings.
