Wedding rings - don’t lose it!

Most of us have friends or family members who can regale us with stories of lost engagement or wedding rings. All’s well if the ring is eventually recovered, but it can be extremely distressing if your wedding ring is lost for good. Here are some stories of lost wedding rings that might convince you that it’s worth taking really good care of yours.

Alaskan miracle

An Alaskan man lost his wedding ring after removing scuba diving gloves on a beach. He realised it was lost as soon as he got home and spent a lot of time searching the area for the lost ring, even using a metal detector with no luck. Seven years later, he returned to the beach with an up-to-date metal detector and after just 10 minutes searching, found the wedding ring he had lost so long ago.

Hard to swallow

A South African paper reported that a woman who had lost her wedding ring after she placed it on the nightstand next to her hospital bed has found it two years later – or at least two thirds of it. The ring, which was a three-band wedding ring, went missing and despite thorough searching by patients and staff, couldn’t be found anywhere. Two years later, a stomach operation on a lady who had been in the next bed along revealed two of the three bands. She had apparently swallowed the ring, although she denied all knowledge of doing so.

Clammed up

After nearly 40 years of marriage, a Connecticut man lost his wedding ring whilst raking for clams – something he only does once or twice a year, but always at the same spot. He looked in vain for the ring, but eventually had to tell his wife that it was lost. They bought a replacement, but it wasn’t the same as the original band they’d exchanged. Amazingly, when the husband went digging for clams two years later, he raked up a piece of gold with the clams. When he cleaned it off, he discovered it was the wedding ring he had lost – with his initials inside to prove it.

The more often you take your wedding ring off, the more likely you are to lose it although as these stories show, miracles can happen. The best way to avoid losing your ring is to make sure it’s properly-sized for you and that you keep it on as much as possible.
