Wedding Rings Controversy – Footballer Plays Away
For devoted couples, wearing their wedding rings is more than just wearing jewellery; wedding rings represent union and love, as well as sending a message out to the rest of the world to say they are already 'off the market'. Taking off wedding rings can be a powerful, emotional kick in the teeth – implying the marriage could be on shaky grounds. Of course, there are times when taking off your wedding rings is practical – washing up, doing dirty work, or for some people, taking off all their jewellery when they go to bed is the norm. But taking of your wedding ring when you're going clubbing is certainly sending out a direct message.
Ashley Cole Takes off Wedding Ring
The Daily Mail newspaper reported that footballer Ashley Cole was snapped clubbing without his wedding ring while his wife, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole was away on tour. As the Mail reports:
“With wife Cheryl Cole hundred of miles away in Scotland, shamed footballer Ashley Cole had a rare night out in London's West End - without his wedding ring.” It wasn't just the fact he was out on the town, but the significance of taking off wedding rings sent out warning bells for the marriage. The couple have not worn their wedding rings since the allegations that the footballer had an affair with a hairdresser.
Sans Wedding Rings
The Chelsea footballer fuelled tabloid speculation that the marriage was on the rocks as both the couple have stopped wearing their wedding rings. The Daily Mail saw the fact the pair had stopped wearing their wedding rings as a sign the couple would split. Cole was spotted at Chinawhite nightclub in London's West End with fellow footballers, “Dressed down in jeans and a grey t-shirt, Ashley made no attempt to hide his left hand, which has been missing a wedding ring since the affair reports broke.”
Despite the tabloid speculation fuelled by the fact the couple have stopped wearing their wedding rings, they have denied they have split. But the fact Cheryl Cole dedicated a song to her female fans 'with love problems' shortly after the Daily Mail report did nothing to stop the tabloid gossip.
